Why Tell Someone They Have Original Sin?

Question:

In terms of original sin, could it be said that it is abuse to basically tell children that they were born in sin?

Answer:

Original sin means that we are born outside of God’s grace and have a tendency towards sin. Though the sacraments we repair our relationship to God and have the grace to overcome our tendency towards sin.

Explaining Original Sin helps someone understand why they struggle with a particular sin or set of sins. It also gives them the choice to accept God’s grace to improve their lives.

When my parents told me that I had bad eyesight and needed glasses to improve my vision it was not abuse. So why would saying we need grace to improve our lives be abuse?
