Question:
Why are souls in purgatory referred to as "holy souls" when they are there only on account of their sins?
Answer:
Even the saints in heaven committed sins. They are holy because they are in union with God and can no longer sin.
The souls in purgatory also can no longer sin. They are already saved and know they are awaiting the fullness of the presence of God.
