Question:
I have heard that we only have rights because we first have responsibilities. What responsibilities does the pre-born child in the womb have?
Answer:
The first step of this argument is wrong. We do not have rights because we have responsibilities. We have rights (and responsibilities) because we are made in the image and likeness of God.
The unborn child has a right to not be killed and we have a responsibility to care for all human life. These rights and responsibilities derive from our dignity as children of God and the fact that all life ultimately belongs to God.
