What to Say to IVF Children

If an adulterous affair resulted in a the birth of a child, would that render adulterous affairs good?

The child is innocent and therefore is loved and welcomed into the world the same as any other child. That does not mean that the immoral actions that took place are suddenly okay or that those actions don’t come with negative consequences. After all, in the case of the adulterous affair, all the tragedy and pain of a broken marriage is still present. And in the case of IVF, the continuation down the road of making reproduction a transaction instead of an act of love is still highly problematic and damaging to society.

When humanity in Adam and Eve sinned and turned away from God, God loved us all the more and sent his Son to save us. Does that mean we should sin even more? Or does the overwhelming expression of God’s love remind us all the more how wrong it is to sin? As we say in the act of contrition: “I detest all my sins, because of thy just punishment, but most of all because they offend thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love.”

In a similar manner, the fact that God permits so wonderful a gift as life to even come through sin should remind us all the more of the gravity of turning away from God.
