The Living and the Dead?

Question:

What is meant by "He will judge the living and the dead" at the end of the world?

Answer:

When it comes time for the Last Judgment, there will still be people alive in the world. At that time, those who have already died will be resurrected, and those still alive in the world will be transformed. Then the final judgment shall take place.

For the Lord himself, with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thess. 4:16-17).

Behold, I tell you a mystery. We shall not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed, in an instant, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (1 Cor. 15:51-52).
