St. Photina: the Woman at the Well

Question:

Who is St. Photina?

Answer:

According to pious tradition, St. Photina was the Samaritan woman to whom Jesus spoke at the well (John 4:4-26). Accordingly, she is said to have become a believer in Jesus, to have spread the gospel, and eventually to have been martyred in Carthage. Another tradition has her called before the Emperor Nero and martyred in Rome.

In the Roman Martyrology, her feast day is March 20.
