Remarriage After the Death of a Spouse

Question:

What is required for marriage of an eligible widow and widower?

Answer:

If someone was married and his or her spouse dies, the widow or widower is considered free to marry. Should the person at some point decide to get married again, the parish priest might ask for a copy of the death certificate or a copy of the obituary or testimony that the first spouse has passed away.

Otherwise, everything else would be the same as any other wedding preparation.
