Question:
Can Catholics pray over people while extending hands?
Answer:
While there is nothing explicitly forbidding it, I would highly discourage such an action. Praying over someone with hands extended can be easily confused with the sacramental sign of the laying on of hands which is used at ordination, anointing of the sick, and confirmation as well as in the Church’s many blessings.
There are many ways to pray with and for someone without extending hands over them and possibly causing confusion. I’d highly recommend an alternative.
