Meaning of Flower on Statue of Our Lady of Fatima

Question:

Re Our Lady of Fatima statue - what is the meaning or significance of the small flower on the lower part of Our Lady’s dress?

Answer:

You seem to have a statue that some artist uniquely made, because standard, official statues of Our Lady of Fatima do not have a flower on them, whether on the lower portion of the Blessed Mother’s dress or elsewhere. If the flower is a lily, that would signify Mary’s purity. St. Joseph is often portrayed with a lily.

Instead, official statues of Our Lady of Fatima feature a star on the lower portion of Mary’s dress. This is the star of Esther, referring to Queen Esther of the Old Testament. Mary is the archetype of Queen Esther, who interceded with the Persian King Ahasuerus so that the ancient Israelites would be preserved from annihilation. So too Mary intercedes for the Church, the new Israel (Gal. 6:16), with the King of Kings, her divine Son Jesus Christ, so that we will be preserved from an even worse eternal death.
