Marriage in the Church Is Important

Question:

What is the importance in marrying in the Catholic Church?

Answer:

Marriage is a sacrament. A sacrament is an external sign of the grace that is imparted by Jesus in the action. When a couple exchanges their marital vows it is Jesus himself who binds them together in the sacrament of marriage. It is fitting to the high dignity of the sacrament that it take place in a sacred place and be blessed by the Church.

While necessity may sometimes dictate otherwise, when all things are equal it makes sense that the sacrament should take place in a sacred place. Imagine if a Bishop decided to ordain men to the priesthood in the local hotel hall instead of a cathedral. It would seem quite incongruous to the dignity and importance of the sacrament. The sacrament of marriage is of no less dignity or importance.
