Question:
Can magic be a central theme in a novel? (Not promoting witchcraft, of course.)
Answer:
By and large, the Catholic Church has no position on such things. Some Church officials have had negative opinions and some have had positive opinions of the most famous recent magical books, the Harry Potter series. It comes down to prudent judgment.
Ultimately, we need simply to ask ourselves if the story is advancing values that are contrary to our faith. If so, avoid it. If not, feel free. Reasonable and well-meaning people will disagree, but we should be asking the same question.
