Question:
Answer:
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults divides converts to Catholicism into two categories: catechumens and candidates.
Catechumens are individuals who are not baptized and who are probably learning for the first time many of the elements of the Christian faith.
Candidates, on the other hand, are those who are already Christians by baptism and are seeking to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. They usually have a basic understanding of the Christian faith and only need to learn the particulars of the Catholic Church.
Due to logistics of time, staff, and resources most parishes combine catechumens and candidates into one program. This is not required nor absolutely necessary and thus some parishes may have a different program altogether for candidates.
The only real way to get an answer to your question is to contact your local Catholic parish and inquire how they proceed with candidates.
