Displaying the Ten Commandments

Question:

Why do Catholic churches not display the Ten Commandments? I was asked by a Protestant friend and did not have an answer. I searched the internet and found a few images in some stained-glass windows but no photos of the commandments on display.

Answer:

I’d say there certainly are some Catholic parishes that display the Ten Commandments in stained glass. However, most Catholic parishes use icons and images from the New Testament and saints rather than things of the Old Testament. An image of the Ten Commandments can be spiritually useful, but it must be kept in mind that Christ taught us to fulfill all the commandments through love of God and neighbor. Images from the Old Testament for Christians must be seen through the lens of the ministry of Jesus.
