Question:
Can a person baptized in the Byzantine Rite be confirmed in the Latin Rite? Also, why?
Answer:
The Byzantine tradition confers the sacrament of confirmation immediately following baptism. The sacrament of confirmation imparts an indelible mark and therefore cannot be repeated (CCC 1304), so someone baptized and confirmed in the Byzantine Church cannot repeat these sacraments in the Latin Church.
If for some strange reason the individual was not confirmed at baptism, he could validly receive the sacrament of confirmation in the Latin Rite. It would not change what ritual Church he belonged to, but it would be valid.
