Response to “Mass is the biggest waste of time.”

Trent Horn

Trent Horn tackles a common criticism about the Catholic Mass. Is it truly a waste of time?

Transcript:

The question I brought to you today, someone commented on this under a video that where we were talking about Mass, we mentioned Mass. And this fellow said, “Mass is the biggest waste of time. Repent and believe in the gospel.”

Well, I would say,

how could ever be a waste of time to spend your Sunday with He who told us to repent and believe in the gospel? That at every Catholic Mass, we receive the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ under the form of bread and wine. What is the gospel? The gospel is the good news of our salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. What did Jesus tell us? He said, “Take and eat. This is my body. Drink this. This is the blood of the new covenant.” He told us in John chapter six, “Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life within you.” I just take Jesus at face value. When Jesus says something, I believe it. That is good news. And so the Lord of the universe comes to dwell with us every Sunday where we can worship. But how do we worship God? We have nothing of our own human merits to offer God. But at Mass, we offer God what He truly deserves. God, that of infinite worth, because we offer the sacrifice of Calvary, not re-sacrifice, but re-presented, the one sacrifice of Christ presented under the form of bread and wine to the Father of which we can partake to inherit eternal life by receiving the bread of eternal life that Christ gives us. That is certainly not a waste of time. That is the best use of your finite time before you enter into eternal life.
