Question:
Answer:
In short, because we have free will. Jesus Christ will not coerce us to conform to his saving plan for mankind, because love coerced is not love at all.
However, we have wonderful Good News in Christ and thus should not despair when we sin. Indeed, the fall of mankind did not result in God’s abandoning mankind in our sins, but rather led the Father to send his only begotten eternal Son Jesus to redeem and save us (John 3:16-17; 15:13; CCC 412).
In addition, Jesus continues to seek us like the Good Shepherd who pursues his wayward sheep, always mercifully there to begin the process of reconciliation (Matt. 18:12-13; Luke 15:1-7). Further, as St. Paul says, “We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8:28), so let us not lose heart when we stumble in sinning, but rather repent and reconcile with Christ and his Church.
