Question:
What C.S. Lewis book do you recommend for Lenten reading?
Answer:
I suggest C.S. Lewis’s apologetics classic Mere Christianity. While Lewis never became Catholic this side of the grave, his defense of Christianity has timeless value in various ways, including his argument that Jesus Christ could not have truly been “a great moral teacher” unless he is also eternal God. This has come to be known as Lewis’s classic “Lord, Liar, or Lunatic” trilemma.
While an Anglican and not a Catholic, Lewis provides many good arguments for and insights into Church teaching. And you can always have the Catechism of the Catholic Church at hand to round out doctrinal pictures where needed.
