Question:
Answer:
If a Catholic is not well-formed in the Faith, we would not recommend reading or listening to a Protestant translation of the Bible, including because of the problematic footnotes or commentary one might be exposed to in an audio or written Protestant presentation, vs. the more edifying footnotes and commentary one would receive in a good Catholic translation, e.g., the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible New Testament.
A well-formed Catholic could read or listen to a non-Catholic translation of the Bible, although it should be a secondary source to a good Catholic Bible for the reasons noted above.
In addition, for a good audio Bible, we recommend the Truth and Life Dramatized Audio Bible New Testament, which employs the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition.
