The Purpose of Armageddon

Question:

Why will Armageddon happen when we already know the outcome?

Answer:

We know the general outcome of this symbolically described, titanic battle (Rev. 16:16)—namely, that God and his Church will triumph over the harlot city (Rev. 17-18), as well as the beast and the false prophet (Rev. 19:11-21). But we don’t know all of the particulars regarding each participant’s life. Similarly, Armageddon will serve as a preview of the final battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil (Rev. 20:7-10). We know the general outcome, but not all of the particulars.

Thus the free-will drama of human life, which applies not only to the overall war between the forces of good and the forces of evil, but also to each of our lives.
