Question:
Answer:
The Church provides in CCC 2043: “The faithful also have the duty of providing for the material needs of the Church, each according to his abilities (footnote omitted).”
Supporting your parish school is one way to fulfill this Church precept, and doing so undoubtedly supports and advances your parish in general, given that the school is an integral and vital part of your parish’s mission. Providing additional support through the weekly Sunday Mass collection is another way to support your parish, although your Sunday contributions may be less than other parishioners, given your support of the parish school by paying for your children’s tuition.
Supporting the parish school is the business of all parishioners. Indeed, the education of children in the faith is not simply the responsibility of parents of school children, but of the larger parish and diocesan Catholic family as well. That applies even more, given the unjust and pervasive American laws in which taxpayers have no say in how their educational tax dollars are spent.
