Servite Rosary Doesn’t Fulfill Daily Fatima Request

Question:

Does praying the Servite Rosary satisfy the request of Our Lady of Fatima to pray a rosary every day?

Answer:

While the Servite Rosary is certainly laudable, it does not technically fulfill Our Lady of Fatima’s request to the Rosary. In his book Vision of Fatima, Father Thomas McGlynn, OP, interviews Sister Lucia, the oldest of the Fatima seers. On page 76 of the 1948 version of this book, Sister Lucia reports that Our Lady uses the Portuguese word terço, which refers to the five-decade Rosary, in her fulfilling her request. The Servite Rosary doesn’t qualify as it meditates on the seven sorrows of Mary.

Sister Lucia added that the most essential request in responding to Our Lady of Fatima is offering up everything daily, particularly our sufferings, for the reparation of sins and the conversion of sinners.

Sophia Institute Press has recently republished Father McGlynn’s book.
