It’s always good to pray to avert natural or manmade disasters. So praying before the Blessed Sacrament, in which Jesus is present body, blood, soul, and divinity (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1374) is highly recommended. If one realizes the reality of the Eucharist—which some sadly see as superstition instead of as our God in sacramental form—then praying to our eucharistic Lord will not be seen as superstitious.
One of the most famous examples of using the Blessed Sacrament to repel impending disaster was St. Clare’s use of it to repel Muslim invaders from her convent.
Sometimes prayers are not answered the way we wish they would be, so we shouldn’t lose faith when they’re not. We should always seek good spiritual guidance when we’re having difficulty discerning God’s will for our lives amidst our trials, whatever they may be.
