Physical Affection Before Marriage

Question:

Is making out before marriage a sin?

Answer:

It depends on what you mean by “making out.” Some expressions of physical affection between couples preparing for marriage are not problematic. Examples would include holding hands, hugging, and kissing with closed lips. Any act of physical affection intended to prepare a couple for spousal relations, however, should be reserved for spousal relations and, when engaged in by those who are unmarried, can be considered a near occasion of sin that could draw the couple into unchaste acts.
