Original Sin Goes Way Back

Original sin is not something we contract because of our parents’ being baptized or not. Original sin is contracted because of the original sin of our first parents, so that every human being thereafter is impacted (although the Blessed Mother was preserved from original sin by the singular grace of her Immaculate Conception). Whereas all humanity was subjected to original sin by Adam, as St. Paul says, we are all redeemed by the paschal sacrifice of the new Adam, Jesus Christ (Rom. 5:12ff., CCC 402ff).
