May a Midwife Prescribe Contraceptives?

Question:

I am a midwife; I deliver babies, take care of women. Is it a sin to educate them about contraceptives and prescribe them?

Answer:

Yes, it would be morally wrong to counsel and prescribe contraceptives (CCC 366-71). On the other hand, you could teach natural family planning (NFP) as a moral option. For more on contraception and NFP, please see our related resources.
