Question:
What is the difference between loving Jesus and being in love with him?
Answer:
Being in love with someone is typically associated with feelings of romance, bliss, and otherwise wonderful times, as with a husband and wife, and the Song of Songs uses marriage as a metaphor for our relationship with God as believers.
But truly loving someone requires a lot more. Love at its core is not a feeling to which we’re subject but a commitment for which we’re held accountable. Consequently, Jesus reminds us we must persevere in adhering to his commandments if we are truly to be his disciples (John 8:31-32).
