Learning Anew as the God-man

Question:

Did Jesus have complete understanding as the Word of God, or did He, like us, have to learn?

Answer:

Because Jesus is God, he is necessarily omniscient (all-knowing) and he would thus indeed have a complete understanding of the Word of God.

Scripture speaks of Jesus’ learning or “increasing in wisdom” (Luke 2:52), but in a qualified sense. Because Jesus is omniscient, he could acquire knowledge in a new way or mode, specifically via his human nature. But he necessarily never could have a net increase in knowledge. Were it otherwise, he would be shown to have limitations, specifically not being omniscient or omnipotent (all-powerful) and thus not God. Which for Jesus, as the Incarnate Word (John 1:1-3, 14), would be a theological impossibility.
