Why does Jesus tell people he cured not to tell anyone that he has cured them?

Among other possible reasons, here are two:
- One, the cures brought out the curious in large numbers, which hindered Jesus’ public ministry to some extent (Mark 1:40-45).
- Jesus’ miracles caused the religious authorities to become agitated and to plot to kill him (John 11:45-53), which in turn hastened the time of his passion and death (John 2:3-4).
