In Baptism, What Does It Mean to “Die with Christ”?

Question:

In baptism, why do we say we die with Christ?

Answer:

Jesus Christ died for our sins. In baptism, we die with Christ in that original sin and any personal sins are absolved because of the atoning merits of Christ’s Paschal Mystery (CCC 1010, 1265-66). And we arise with Christ as a “new creature,” adopted sons and daughters son of God who thus partake of his divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).
