Question:
My mom died two years ago. We’ve had a half dozen Masses said for her since then. Is there a specific number of Masses we should schedule?
Answer:
Normally, the custom is to have a Mass on the anniversary of the death or near to it. You may also have the Gregorian Masses celebrated for her repose. This is a series of thirty consecutive Masses that was encouraged by the example of St. Gregory the Great in his Dialogues. In any case, you may have as many Masses as you desire for her because, should she have no need of them, they will still benefit to other souls to whom you are related who may be awaiting entry into heaven.
