Heaven Doesn’t Bind Widows, Widowers

Question:

If the soul is eternal, and what the apostles (and their priestly successors) bind on Earth then is bound in heaven, would this not apply to marriage?

Answer:

While we will indeed live forever, the sacrament of holy matrimony applies only to this Earth. That is why widows have always been able to remarry. Widowers too, except in the case of permanent deacons, who need a special dispensation from the Church to remarry. In addition, Jesus affirms that this sacrament doesn’t endure past death (see Matthew 22:23-33). So there will neither be binding on Earth nor in heaven in this regard.
