My two sons (ages twelve and fourteen) were asked to serve at Mass and declined. We aren’t sure if we should force them to.
Answer:
Try to find some peer friends of theirs who are also serving Mass, and perhaps that might motivate them. In any case, you certainly should not require them to serve at Mass. Better to focus on Mass attendance and regular prayer and confession rather than an optional service. Our children learn better when they are given some measure of free choice in matters that are not essential.
