Do Miracles Violate Free Will?

Question:

Do miracles violate free will?

Answer:

No, miracles don’t violate our free will. People who are the direct beneficiaries of miracles are typically open to them and have prayed for them, or have had loved ones pray for them. And when people in Jesus’ hometown of Nazareth resisted him, Jesus respected their misuse of their free will and so “did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief” (Matthew 13:58).

In addition, if someone experiences a miracle directly or observes a miracle otherwise, they’re still free to accept or reject God, though one would hope such a personal experience would 1) strengthen their faith, 2) restore their faith, or 3) bring them to faith for the first time.
