Question:
Answer:
Yes, God knew about the Fall, and he knew it from all eternity. Creation was not some thought that God developed. Because God is omniscient, i.e., all-knowing, he necessarily knew from all eternity that he would create the angels, the universe and mankind; that man would fall and need a Redeemer; that Mary would be the Mother of the Redeemer; and that his only begotten Son would be that Redeemer.
If God didn’t know all of that, he necessarily wouldn’t be omniscient and thus couldn’t be God, because he would be shown to have limitations and therefore not omnipotent (all-powerful) and all-knowing. Finally, God’s knowing something will happen does not imply his coercing or predetermining something will happen. Indeed, his omniscience didn’t preclude Mary’s free-choice cooperation in saying yes to God’s plan.
