Are There Satanic Rosaries?

Question:

I’ve seen a couple of articles warning about “satanic rosaries.” Is there such a thing, and if so, how would I recognize one?

Answer:

From a Catholic perspective, there can be no such thing as a “satanic rosary.” You may call an apple an orange or call a boy a girl, but that doesn’t change the reality of what those things are. So it is with the rosary.

The rosary is a devotion in honor of the Virgin Mary. Anything other than that is a counterfeit. You may see online various ropes with beads for sale as “satanic rosaries,” but those are not genuine rosaries. Like the satanic Black Mass, they are blasphemous counterfeits. In recent years, the Philippines Bishops Conference have published an article warning about these counterfeits, which the conference said have included “the supposed Illuminati insignia of the sun with its rays and the snake at the back of the Crucified Christ becomes visible to the naked eye.”

If you encounter one of these counterfeits, destroy and dispose of it, e.g., by burning and putting the remains in the trash.

On the other hand, if you think you are in possession of a genuine rosary that may have been used for satanic purposes, take it to your parish priest and have it blessed right away. And afterward, use it for the purpose for which it was intended, and be at peace.
