Question:
Answer:
The Anglican Society of St. Francis is a Franciscan religious order that is part of the Anglican communion. During the English Reformation, Catholic religious orders were suppressed. In the early twentieth century, a group of Anglicans chose to form a religious community that took its inspiration from St. Francis of Assisi and built its rule of life upon his charism. Like its Catholic counterpart, the Anglican Franciscans comprise men and women who live in community as consecrated religious and also laity and Anglican clergy who follow a Franciscan rule but live in the world.
The Anglican Franciscans are not Catholic, but they venerate St. Francis and within their Anglican communion seek to follow Christ according to St. Francis’s example. You can read more about the Anglican Franciscans here.
