Question:
Is the Holy Spirit the same thing as the Spiritus Mundi or Anima Mundi as referenced in hermetic and platonic literature?
Answer:
No, they are not. Spiritus Mundi (“the Spirit of the World”) and Animus Mundi (“the Soul of the World”) are ancient pagan attempts to capture the reality of God. But the ancients did not encounter Jesus Christ, let alone experience the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and so they would not have understood that the Almighty is three divine persons in one God (the Trinity), and that the Holy Spirit is one of those divine persons.
