Catholic Answers seeks a full-time chaplain.
The position could be filled for a period as brief as 6-12 months (a sabbatical of sorts for a priest who would like to write a book or pursue independent study) or it could be filled indefinitely.
The primary responsibility of the chaplain is to see to the common liturgical, sacramental, and prayer life of the apostolate. This work includes offering daily Mass, hearing confessions, leading lauds and vespers, etc.
The ideal chaplain will:
• Offer daily mass;
• Write on theology, apologetics, and pastoral questions with a clear and lively prose style accessible to a popular audience;
• Be comfortable fielding questions in an articulate, empathetic, and concise manner on Catholic Answers Live, the number-one Catholic radio program;
• Fit well in an energetic and joyful office: hard working with a Southern California vibe;
• Be very good at softball.
Most important is the liturgical and sacramental life of the apostolate, so if it’s been a while since you’ve hit an inside-the-park home run, told an RCIA class where purgatory is mentioned in the Bible, or explained the principle of double effect to eighth graders, don’t hesitate to apply. Both religious and secular priests are invited.
Compensation includes salary, benefits, and allowance for housing. Housing and weekend liturgical work are furnished very nearby at a parish quite friendly to Catholic Answers and sympathetic to our mission.
Feel free to share this notice with priests you feel may be suited to the post.
