Pro-Life Open Forum

Ethical questions seem to multiply as medical science advances. Dr. George Delgado takes listener calls about the beginning and end of life and about the proper use of medical technology.

Questions Covered:

  • 08:45 - The main argument for abortion being wrong is that it takes an innocent life. How is war the same or different in light of that principle?
  • 17:37 - In vitro fertilization is considered immoral because it requires deaths of a lot of embryos. How do we respond to people saying that we deny people the ability to have kids by trying to outlaw it?
  • 32:08 - Is it ever okay to have an abortion when it is certain that the mother’s life is in danger from childbirth?
  • 40:04 - There’s a dangerous idea being propagated in Catholic circles that after a woman is raped, the hospital can give her a pill to stop the egg from being fertilized. This seems like a moral grey area at best since it seems there is now way of knowing for certain whether the egg is fertilized. What are your thoughts on this?
  • 49:22 - What if a mother’s life is in danger, but the danger is not from a reproductive part of the body (i.e. a cardiac problem)? What is the procedure there?
  • 52:45 - The Archdiocese has approved Catholic hospitals to be grounds for the public health department to distribute clean drug injection equipment (i.e. syringes, needles) to drug users so that they’re at least not using dirty ones. Is this pro-life, since it seems to be okaying drug use?
