The callers choose the topics during Open Forum, peppering our guests with questions on every aspect of Catholic life and faith, the moral life, and even philosophical topics that touch on general religious belief.
Questions Covered:
- 04:52 - I read a Protestant theologian article on why sola scriptura doesn’t have to be explicitly biblical. I was hoping to run his argument by you so you can help me refute his stance.
- 14:10 - My understanding is that when you donate organs you must be clinically alive; otherwise the organs are not viable. What is the church’s stance on organ donation in light of this information? In the last hour it was stated that you cannot take a life to save a life.
- 18:51 - The Catechism talks about praising God for we are “part God”. I am not yet Catholic and want to make sure I’m reading this correctly. Can you explain this statement for me?
- 22:54 - Is Jesus’ nature made up of both divine and human, or all combined into one person? In the passion of Christ, I know the human part suffered, but how does the divine part come in?
- 33:13 - How much credence are Catholics to give to other spiritualities? For example, is there a way for Catholics to safely practice yoga for health reasons? If in a workplace that is very interested in horoscopes, how do you navigate this without seeming cold to your colleagues?
- 36:52 - Is it acceptable if in your line of work as a contractor you wind up doing business with an unethical company?
- 44:55 - Since Catholic funeral Masses take place days after the individual has passed away, how effective are the prayers for that soul? Has the person already been judged?
- 50:17 - I’m in a college campus ministry. We want to do a communion service in our chapel, but we’re not sure if this is allowed since we may not have a priest available to say Mass for the occasion. Can you clarify for us?
